Having an acidic diet can result in many health issues, imbalances in the body and potential dangerous illness.  Our bodies need to work at optimal pH level to survive in a solid and healthy manner.

pH means Potential Hydrogen.  It measures the concentration of hydrogen-ions in the body fluids.  The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14.  Body fluids with a higher pH level are richer in oxygen and even more alkaline. Lower pH levels are less oxygenated and more acidic. 7 is neutral pH

These are the perfect pH levels of the body fluids:

– Saliva pH = 7.0-7.5

– Blood pH = 7.35-7.45

– Urine pH = 4.6-8.0

When they are unbalanced, or very high, there are several health threats.

Problems induced by acidity

Here are some of the issues that may be the effect of a body that is too acidic.

Obesity

If our anatomies are too acidic they can not eliminate waste.  The kidneys, colon, skin and lymph become overworked with the stream of waste from the surplus acid and cannot be rid of it. The acidity then gets delivered to the fat tissues where it attaches itself to the fat cells.

Poor dental health

Our teeth and mouths feel the effects of alkaline body.

When there is excessive acid in a body, the body will attempt to alkalize itself to prevent illness. It does this to the detriment of the bones and teeth.  The body pulls calcium from our teeth, so although it may temporarily get rid of some problems, it causes new ones.

An unhealthy diet, or one rich with sweetened drinks and food, exasperates the production of lactic acid in the mouth.  This triggers cavities, the second dental issue of acidity.

So when our mouth feel the effects of acidity in the body, our gums and teeth become extra painful and sensitive when consuming hot or cold drinks.  This is the third dental problem.

And in this case, cavities and bleeding gums are common.

Weak bones

Just as the body tries to protect itself by taking calcium from teeth, the body does the same thing with the bones.  When there is too much acid your body will try to keep it alkaline and can pull calcium from the bones and minerals from the organs and tissues to reduce and alkalize the acidity.  Calcium is one particular minerals.  Once the body melts away the bones calcium reserves, the bones become weak.

This causes osteoporosis or osteopenia and people can break or fracture bones easily. They need to cut coffee, fizzy drinks, beef and any acidic foods off their diet.

Mucus build-up

Your nose passages can be afflicted with a high alkaline content.  Your system will produce mucus to remove the acid build-up.  This extra mucus will start to affect your lungs and will cause coughing, sinus problems, wheezing, asthma, chest pains and difficulty in breathing.

Acne / Skin problems

In case the pH level in the body is incorrect, the kidneys start fstruggling with the toxins.  Your skin also serves as a eliminating organ, but if stressed with toxins, it cannot. Dermatological manifestations happens — acne, pimples, rashes, psoriasis and eczema.   When there is too much acid in the blood it becomes vunerable to bacterias and waste.  Your skin usually flushes these out, but it cannot do this when there is too much acid.

Exhaustion

Our body needs fluids for daily tasks, like digestion, transport of nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, protection and overall lubrication of the body.   If our fluids become too acidic, then the capacity of our own fluids to work becomes less.  Our body must work much harder, leading to fatigue.

Sleeplessness

This one goes together with exhaustion, but when there is too less calcium in you-insomnia attacks.  Your body cannot relax and settle with unbalanced pH levels and high acidity will cause sleeplessness.

Muscle and joint pain

Too much acid causes constricted muscles, this means the capillaries holding blood and running through the muscles have to work extra hard.  Your body is deprived of oxygen. The blood can’t absorb vitamins and nutrients.  The muscles work hard to operate, extra chard, resulting in muscle pain. If you have tiredness with the muscle pain this is a clear indication that your system is overloaded with acids.

How to reduce acidity in your body

Stay hydrated.  A properly hydrated body allows excessive acid to move trough the system.  The digestive tract can eliminate toxins and waste.

Drink warm lemon water.  Lemon juice is acidic only outside the human body.  Once it is in the body  it goes through metabolism and works as an alkaline, increasing the pH levels in you.

Eat your greens.  Vegetables are saturated in alkaline.  Cucumber, spinach, broccoli, chard, lettuce, celery and green asparagus are good.  Consider juicing some of these vegetables.  That is why green drink is so healthy.

Cut acidic products out of your daily diet.  This means lessen or don’t have any caffeine, alcoholic beverages, fizzy drinks, processed meats, junk food and arteficial sweeteners.

Add magnesium and calcium to your diets.  Have these in capsule form or eat foods abundant with them.  They may be best for your teeth and bones. Dark leafy vegetables are good, as is seafood (salmon) dried fruits and grains.

Eat organic.  Try and cut out all processed or GMO foods and eat organic and natural only.
