Healing diet includes so many pieces and after years of intentional protocol I realized that I was missing one very important piece: DETOX BATHS.

Living in a polluted world is enough reason to take detox baths. Detox bath stimulates the body to flush out toxins efficiently. It is also good for our overall health and well-being, it strengthens and prevents diseases.  Detoxification is essential part of the GAPS healing protocol and one of the easiest healing therapies for enhancing the natural detoxification process of your body.

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride is a neurologist and nutritionist who developed the GAPS diet, a comprehensive healing protocol. You can implement this diet alone, in a box, but there are great odds for you missing few key ingredients important for optimum healing.

Detoxification baths were always my priority. And I would like to share with you some of my insights regarding detox baths.

But to make things clear, GAPS diet was a part of my personal story, so it can also be used from those who are not on the GAPS diet.  No matter what diet you are on, healing is required and detox baths can only be beneficial for you.

Here are four steps how to take detox baths

Step one

Baking soda

Baking soda has anti-fungal properties and helps in alkalizing and detoxifying your skin and your body as well. Use 1-3 cups (1 for children and 3 for adults) of the healing powder in each bath.

Step two

Epsom Salt or Mineral Sea Salt

Mineral Sea salt is used for cleansing and is very efficient due to its minerals that enhance health.

Epsom salt has ability to enhance liver function and enables detoxification of the liver.

Both are contain great amounts of magnesium and they are great for detoxification, bone, tissue and joint health. The recommended dosage for children less than 60lbs. is ½ cup for a standard size baths. The ones whose weight is between 60 and 100lbs can use a full cup. And those whose weight is over 100lbs. should add 2 cups or more to their bath.

Step three

Lavender essential oil

Lavender essential oil has a numerous health benefits such as relaxing, headache healing, antibacterial, and anti-itch. Its calming scent makes it an excellent tonic for the nerves. If you only prefer detoxification of your body, add 3-4 drops of lavender or any other essential oil in your bath.

Step four

I always carve out 40 minutes for myself 3-4 times a week, especially in the evening. It is good for rejuvenating your spirit and healing your body. You can add salt in your bath because the magnesium contributes for better sleep and relaxing your mind.

If you dry brushing in the morning and taking bath at night, then dry brushing is enough for just once a day.

Dr. NCM recommends rotating your bath ingredients in order to reduce the likelihood of becoming too sensitive to a certain product.

There are also two other ingredients that are good for detoxification: Apple Cider Vinegar and seaweed.

If you decide to use ACV then add 1 cup in your bath, for standard bath size, or use ½ cup for children.

And if you decide to use seaweed, there are a couple combinations recommended. The Seaweed Bath Company and Aalgo Organic Seaweed Bath. For children use 2 T. and for adults use 4.

It takes 40 minutes -20 minutes of the hottest bathwater to feel comfortable and to pull toxins to the surface of the skin and 20 minutes to flush out the toxins of the skin.

Drinking water after bathing is also recommended to eliminate the toxins. You may feel tired after detox bath, so you can lay down to rest.

WHAT’S THE RECIPE: HOW MUCH & HOW OFTEN?

In order to feel the most of detox baths benefits, then taking them should be your daily ritual. Try to perform detox baths for at least 3 times a week. For me, the best ingredients which I used the most for taking detox baths are baking soda and lavender essential oil.
