World’s Fittest Grandma Body Builder Just Celebrated Her 80th Birthday
Did you ever feel that you are too old to do something? Well, you are definitely not. And Ernestine Shepherd has proven that. She’s the world’s oldest female bodybuilder, and believe it or not, the iron-pumping grandma recently turned 80!
Have you seen the meme circulating which shows two elderly females, one fit, standing up, and happy, and another who’s constrained to a wheelchair, who likely consume several medications every day?
The meme features Ernestine Shepherd, a remarkably inspiring woman who just turned 80 years old. Shepherd isn’t like the majority of elders. Actually, she’s the world’s oldest competitive woman bodybuilder, and keeps a record in the Guinness Book of World Records!
Born on June 16th, 1936, the octogenarian from Baltimore didn’t start doing exercises until she was 56 years old. As she explains in the video, she started with the help of her sister. After her sister passed away from a brain aneurysm, however, Shepherds stopped carrying about her health. That was, until she developed high blood pressure and decided things needed to change.
Today, she wakes up at 3 am, runs 80 miles (130km) weekly, and lives off a calorie-controlled diet of boiled egg whites, chicken, vegetables, and a lot of water.
Ask her what her true magic formula of success if, however, and she’ll say it’s to ‘never quit.’ Keep that statement in mind the next time you think about skipping your routine.
Here below is a video that relays that inspirational eighty year old’s story:
Happy 80th Birthday, Ernestine!
