According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), you should never keep the milk out of the fridge for more than two hours, since harmful bacteria multiply quickly in unrefrigerated food. Even the heated milk should be refrigerated.

 

 

  1. Fresh meat and fish

Raw or cooked meat should always be refrigerated, as well as separated from other food, in order to prevent cross-contamination.

Here’s how long meat is good for in the fridge:

  • Raw ground meats, poultry, seafood, and various types of meats: 1-2 days
  • Raw roasts, steaks, and chops (beef, veal, lamb, and pork): 3-5 days
  • Cooked meat, poultry, and seafood: 3-4 days.

Meat lasts for several months or even more if you put it in the freezer.

 

 

  1. Eggs

While people in the UK and other European countries store the eggs at room temperature due to the differences in production practices, people in USA are strongly recommended by US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to refrigerate the eggs because of the risk from salmonella bacteria.

Although, some people claim that you can keep certain organic eggs at room temperature, but refrigerating eggs still remains the safest way to prevent egg-related illness.

 

 

 

  1. Cheese (except for aged)

You should always keep soft cheeses like brie or ricotta in the fridge, unlike the pasteurized or aged cheeses like Parmesan or Romano. But, first consult package instructions.

 

 

 

  1. Butter( optional)

According to USDA recommendations, you should always refrigerate the butter you are not going to use the next day or two. Butter is made from pasteurized milk making it less likely to grow bacteria and therefore many people keep the butter in a covered dish out of the fridge.

 

 

  1. Soy milk (after opening)

Soy milk doesn’t require to be refrigerated before opening, because it can last one year on the shelf. But after opening, the soy milk must be refrigerated and consumed in 5 days.

 

 

 

  1. Jam and condiments (after opening)

You can keep jams, condiments and salad dressings in the pantry, but once you open you must refrigerate them.

 

 

  1. Apples

Apples can last for a week at room temperature, but if you keep them in the fridge wrapped individually in the fridge can last much longer-like for several months.

 

 

  1. Bananas (optional)

Many people keep the bananas at room temperature.  You can keep them in a paper bag in order to make them ripen faster. If you refrigerate the bananas, they will turn brown,
